The 2010 is comprised of two clones of Pinot Noir: Swan and Clone 115. On September 22, 2010, we picked the Swan at 24.7 Brix with a pH of 3.41. These numbers are nearly perfect
The Clone 115 was picked a little riper, on September 28, 2010, at 25.1 Brix with a pH of 3.55. We purposely did this to coax out the darker fruit flavors and give the wine a little more complexity. Both clones were aged 17 months in 100% French oak (40% new).

The 2009 growing season was marked by its challenging summer months. It was very cool for the most part but delivered several 100°F heat spikes that the vines weren't ready for. During September, when we usually pick, the first 2 weeks hovered in the 90's with occasional jumps over 100°. Harvest was a bit frenzied as we picked the fruit as quickly as possible in very short spans of optimal conditions. Everyone was in the same boat during that time but I have to say I'm very pleased with the wine quality from each producer of a 2009 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir.
One interesting thing about our 2009 Pinot is that it was vinified the same as the 2008 vintage. You really get a sense of how the climate affects the grapes when the two wines are tasted side by side. The '09 has a little more structure and red fruit flavors that will age well and develop the tertiary flavors we look for in aged Pinots.
220 cases. $42.

2008 was a challenging year for growers starting with the worst frost season in 30 years, causing uneven growth in the cooler areas of the vineyard. Our viticultural practices focused on retaining the highest quality of fruit, even when it meant numerous small picks and lower yields at harvest. It was a difficult year, but we feel the end result is our best wine yet.
Our 2008 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir introduces a third clone, 115, to the blend. Since the 115 was picked a little later than the Swan and Pommard 5, we were able to add 20% whole cluster to the fermentation. Your first impression of this wonderfully balanced wine is its rich aroma. The complex taste of dark cherry and spices is accompanied by a soft silky texture and a long finish.
